Spotted: S and E having too many martinis. They’re definitely not spilling any Aviation Gin (we see what you did there, Feig) but they sure are spilling secrets. Little Steph has a thing for her brother, but was that detail really necessary? Seems like a red herring, but your turn, E! Alas, S can’t get anything out of Em -- she’ll have to settle for an extra shot of gin.
Then there’s Em’s hubby, Sean. Is he about to get “Gone Girl”-ed? We would hope Feig has a little more noir in his back pocket -- and sure enough, Little Steph has a toner for the widower.
Spotted: S and S hot and heavy in Em’s still-warm bed. There’s nothing Gossip Girl likes more than a love triangle, but really, S? Em’s not going to like this.
Once she’s settled in to Em’s life, our little detective goes on a hunt, but the macabre details start piling up. Feig’s story seems to be spiraling, and E’s plan is unraveling -- but Little Steph is unraveling faster.
After leads to nowhere, lost specifics and a lackluster ending, “A Simple Favor” is a satirical thriller with a backbone of glamour. The charm of this film isn’t even in the storytelling, but in S and E’s alluring acting -- and a little bit of Louboutin never hurts.
So until next time -- you know you love me. Xoxo, Gossip Girl.
