1. Casa Acantilado
This Spanish seaside retreat evokes waves in the ocean. Look
from the open-air covered terrace/living room to see the heated pool and
beyond: an aquamarine blue ocean. Off one of the bedrooms is a second, glass
balcony with even more amazing, unobstructed views.
2. A High-ly Creative Retreat
As part of a promotion for his new line of home goods and
smoking paraphernalia, Houseplant, Seth Rogen had a limited-time Airbnb rental
in L.A. – a midcentury modern house decorated by Houseplant. It came with a
stocked fridge, a vinyl collection curated by Rogen and partner Evan Goldberg and a pottery lesson from the actor himself. Hopefully, the listing will pop up
again soon, even if Rogen sits the next one out.
3. Romantic Cabin for Naturalists
In the woods near Houston sits this very romantic, very private cabin. So private, in fact, that you don’t need to pack any clothes for
the weekend, if you catch our drift. There’s a hot tub, an outdoor shower and a warning that just
because you might not encounter other humans on your adventure doesn’t mean your
path won’t cross with other types of woodland creatures, so you might want to bring a robe, for safety purposes.
4. Cliff Dweller
Bring your hiking boots for this getaway in the treetops of Kentucky.
In the canopy above Red River Gorge are your sky kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
Just scale hundreds of suspended stairs to get there. You’ll get your steps in
for the day and have a view like no other.
5. Romantic Firehouse
This tiny, romantic glass cabin in Georgia will help you get
away from it all, especially since there’s no Wi-Fi or cell service. You will
get a slide pole though, a full shared bathroom in the common area, access to a shared firepit and lots of nature and wildlife. There’s a creek and the promise of deer that
come by at night.
6. Rockethouse
From the outside, this modern, industrial, newly renovated home in Atlanta, Georgia looks like it’s ready to blast off into space. Inside
it’s sleek yet still homey and sleeps seven. The kitchen has Miele appliances
and is dinner-party-ready, so this would be a great place for a small
gathering.
7. Acute Point of View
This Blue Ridge Mountain home is surprisingly spacious with four
bedrooms. You can really spread out among the four floors or spend time on the
deck gazing out at the misty mountains. Go hiking or explore downtown
Asheville, North Carolina, which is 45 minutes away. Because of all the space,
this is perfect for a large group or family reunion.
8. Nature House
If you want to step out of the grid entirely, this Swedish retreat has its own energy and a green house with fresh produce. The inside is
gorgeous and airy while the outside has lake and mountain views and close
proximity to the beach. It sleeps five and comes with a canoe for fishing.
9. Alianz Loft
In Costa Rica sits this architectural marvel, on the same
grounds as the design firm’s offices. You can also enjoy a small farm, a rabbit
garden and possibly nighttime fireworks, thanks to other events held on the
property. It’s Jetsons meets nature. Yes, there’s a jacuzzi and a well-appointed
kitchen, but back to the rabbit garden…
10. Corten House & Pool
You’re not going to find another home like this slate and steel Spanish wonder. Each angle provides a new view. Take a dip in the equally
aesthetic pool or drive a short way to the beach. There’s a double bed and a
room with two bunks, making this a perfect escape for a very stylish family.
11. The Pink House
The Pink House is Barbie move-in-ready. So pink, this house
is decked in flowers, unicorns, flamingoes and neon and has a dedicated office
space. The English countryside cottage sleeps 16 so you can host an epic girls’
night or keep it to yourself to work on your Barbie fanfic.
12. Ring House
This three-story Japanese tower rises through the forest
like a monolith. Enjoy a peaceful, secluded setting that sleeps six and has a
third floor panoramic bath tub for tree-gazing. Or, walk in the woods and take a
Japanese-style forest-air bath. Either way, you will exit your stay feeling cleansed and
renewed.
13. The Rubber House
Stay in the upstate New York artist retreat for the ultimate
inspiration. There’s lots of natural light, hiking trails and visiting
critters to keep you busy during your stay. The pièce
de résistance, however, is the glass chef’s kitchen (one of the
original owners was a chef) so you can feed your soul as well as stoke creativity.
