If you haven’t yet, I urge -- nay, implore -- you to watch the sequel to Netflix’s hit "To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before." Not because it’s that good, by any means, because "P.S. I Still Love You" and its predecessor were both mediocre at best, but because of John Ambrose McClaren.
Played by Jordan Fisher, John Ambrose serves as the "grass is greener" antagonist to lead Lara Jean (Lana Condor)’s new boyfriend, Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Fisher. He did both "Grease" and "Rent" live and has had recurring roles on a number of Disney and Nickelodeon shows. Plus, he’s played Philip Hamilton/John Laurens in the stage production of "Hamilton" and took over the titular role in "Dear Evan Hansen" on Broadway this year.
Still, this should probably be considered the 25-year-old’s “big break,” as the original Jenny Han adaptation was a huge success and the film places Fisher in front of a larger, more mainstream audience. And thank goodness for that, because have you seen this guy’s chiseled features?
What really put me on the Jordan Fisher bandwagon, though, was one particular scene in "P.S. I Still Love You." In it, John Ambrose is alone, sitting at a grand piano and playing a sweet melody. Lara Jean comes to join him on the bench, and he tells her a story, all while continuing to beautifully kill it on the keys.
I know what you’re thinking: There’s no way that’s actually him. Well, reader, I’m pleased to tell you that this gorgeous man is, indeed, that talented. When he’s not acting, Fisher is a singer, musician, dancer -- boy’s got it all, hence the Broadway chops. These wildly impressive classical piano skills are just the gorgeous cherry on top of an already delicious cake. Not only was he really playing, but he was improvising the melody. What a swoon.
Here’s the thing, though! Even if Fisher hadn’t really been playing the piano, I would still be gushing over this scene and John Ambrose altogether. There’s something about a man behind a baby grand that just does something to a gal. John Ambrose isn’t the first, and he won’t be the last. For example, these five other actors surpassed my attraction expectations once they hopped on the keys. Everyone else’s as well, I assume.
