Don’t get me wrong, “Crazy Rich Asians” was an incredibly well-done film -- the characters were perfectly casted, the satire that author Kevin Kwan weaved into his writing made it into the movie via characters like Peik Lin and Bernard Tai and what could beat that on-location filming?
Of course, a 500-something page book isn’t the easiest to turn into a two-hour film. Details are going to get lost and some of the finer points aren’t going to make it into the final cut. That’s not to say that it won’t still turn out exceptional -- and in this case it definitely still did -- but a little piece of my heart still goes out to the smaller pieces of this story that made it so well rounded.
