1. A Green Reception
The reception can be, by far, the most harmful
part of the wedding on the environment, from single-use plastics to food waste
and greenhouse gasses. The Walden in Chicago is trying to tackle reception
waste by eliminating single-use plastics and recycling or composting all other
waste. Food is prepped on site, needing less transportation and rentals are
in-house. The electricity for the venue is sourced from sustainable energy providers
and overall the venue generates a third less greenhouse gasses. Carbon offsets
can also be purchased to further reduce the carbon footprint of the event.
