You know how your parents were always saying no to the sugary cereals and limiting your access to the cookie jar? Turns out they weren’t just cruel human beings -- it was for your own good! Because if, as a kid, you consistently reached for the soda and Oreos instead of the water and trail mix, you’d more easily develop a huge crush on sugar. Which -- surprise! -- has consequences when you’re older.
Of course, there’s the good sugar versus bad sugar debate, but the general consensus is that too much sugar = bad for you. It makes you want to eat more, surplus sugar is converted into fat, you crash and burn faster...you get it. But as hard as it is to cut down on brownies and Gatorade, it’s even harder to cut back on coffee (caffeine being a natural drug and all). And that’s where a lot of us tend to inhale most of our sugar. Check out Starbucks’s breakdowns if you don’t believe me.
But I’ll be the last to suggest you emit coffee from your daily diet, mostly because I myself would probably shrivel up if I denied myself a morning latte. Luckily I’ve found some tips for attempting to cease sugar-bombing yourself while still getting that caffeine buzz.
And if you’re the type of person that can drink your coffee without any additives, just know that the rest of us salute you, even if we don’t understand you.
