Succulents may just be a trendy thing Urban Outfitters has capitalized on throughout the last few years, but don’t knock it ‘til you try it! Houseplants have proven to hold health and wellness benefits, as mediocre as the shrubs may seem.
If we’re making it simple, plants absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, so they’re constantly purifying the air in your house. Goodbye (up to 87 percent of) toxins, hello fresh air! Not to mention they regulate humidity, which is especially useful as we enter warmer months.
Besides the physical health aspects that houseplants can help out with, it’s also been said that they increase productivity and focus. Who needs coffee and an instrumental playlist when you can get a fern? (Most of us, but still.) They’re mood boosters, stress relievers and happiness elevators -- and it doesn’t take a lot to keep them around.
That being said, sometimes it is hard to keep a green thing, you know, green. Some houseplants do require a little less maintenance, though, so if you’re keen on positivity and fresh air, consider these five worth a try.
