It’s a modern love story for the ages: Wells Adams, of “Bachelor” Nation fame, and Sarah Hyland, the lovable Haley Dunphy on “Modern Family,” are undoubtedly a match made in heaven, but how did they meet? Twitter. Good ol', meme-tastic Twitter.
The two have curated a relationship that anyone would be envious of, especially considering Hyland’s deeply personal reflection on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” yesterday regarding her mental and physical health struggles over the years. Everyone was rooting for underdog Adams on “The Bachelorette,” and we love Hyland’s acting chops and general sweet demeanor.
Adams and Hyland have a public enough relationship that makes it easy for us to follow closely along with like the overeager voyeurs we are, and the more I see, the more I will gladly vouch for their own program once “Modern Family” eventually comes to an end and Adams has poured enough drinks to last a lifetime on “Paradise.” Here’s why.
Their love story is modern AF.
As the story goes, Hyland has been a diehard “Bachelor” fan for years, and started tweeting about Adams during his season vying for JoJo Fletcher’s affections and again when he made appearances as a bartender on subsequent seasons of “Bachelor in Paradise.” Adams responded, things were flirty and the rest is sweet, crazy-in-love history.
"Have you seen those memes of ‘Slide Into the DMs’? That. He slid into my DMs,” Hyland told Jimmy Kimmel.
What Adams and Hyland have is a story that hasn’t necessarily been explored yet: a healthy, successful relationship born and bred on the internet. Sure, programs like “The Bachelor” and “90 Day Fiancé” are based on relationships made out of all-but-blind first dates, but they rarely end happily. Adams and Hyland are making their modern romance thrive.
They rock a good pun.
While the two’s romance firs sparked headlines in 2017 when they went as Eleven and Dustin for Halloween -- gender roles reversed, obviously -- it was this past Halloween’s couple’s costume that really proved both their love of fast food and ability to pull off a really, really good pun.
They already have the cutest fur family.
In past interviews, Adams has said that the only condition he has about most things -- his living situation and wedding, to be specific -- is that his dog, Carl, is involved.
Likewise, Hyland has called her dog her “significant other” (sorry, Wells) and has talked openly on Instagram about how they’ve been her biggest support system while she’s been tackling ongoing health issues and kidney transplants.
When Adams moved from Nashville to Los Angeles last summer to live with Hyland, he of course brought Carl along, and the pooches' dynamic was something everyone had to get used to.
“The dogs are amazing. There’s a little bit of, like, a power struggle with Boo and Carl because they’re both big dogs,” Hyland told Us Weekly. “But, like, Boo is more of a predominantly alpha personality, whereas Carl’s just an alpha-size dog. But they’re having so much fun playing and it’s really amazing to see Boo finally get to play with a dog his size.”
Now, the fur babies are all BFFs and would make for classic television if given the chance. Just look at those faces!
They rival Chrissy Teigen in terms of clapbacks.
Adams has been in the pseudo spotlight his fair share, what with DJing for iHeartRadio for years and appearing on “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” for a few seasons running. And, as such, he knows how to handle Hollywood, whether it comes for him or his girl.
"He’s like my knight in shining armor, but, like, funny," Hyland said of Adams to Entertainment Tonight.
Don’t get it twisted though -- Hyland can hold her own.
But they also know who walked so they could run.
Suffice it to say, they’d get into some high-rated drama and we’re super into it.
Their cute selfie game is unparalleled.
What makes better TV than pure Instagrammable chemistry? This is a point better made with evidence.
