1. Jackson Hole, WY
This one's for the skiers. Sure, you can ski just about anywhere, but Jackson Hole is climbing everyone's lists, and for good reason. Personally, I must recommend the Four Seasons at Jackson Hole (you're supposed to splurge on your honeymoon, right?) for the fantastic aprés scene, but wherever you stay, you'll be surrounded by the winter wonderland that is Grand Teton National Park. Think: rustic fantasy, including sleigh rides, crackling fireplaces and snow coach tours.
2. Switzerland
When you think of Switzerland, it's almost impossible for snow-capped mountain peaks to not pop into your mind's eye. Gstaad Palace is a favorite for honeymooners since it looks straight out of a fairytale story and you can spend your time as newlyweds either hitting the slopes or the spa. Or, stay closer to the Matterhorn to knock those black diamonds off your bucket list. If you're not trying to exert much energy on this trip, opt for a classic stay in Zurich and enjoy some canoodling in outdoor hot tubs with mountainous views laid out in front of you and exploring the charm of the city.
3. New Zealand
If you're keen on a summer wedding but always pictured a chilly honeymoon, that's what the Southern Hemisphere is for. Our seasons are swapped with our Aussie and Kiwi friends, and Queensland, specifically, is a top haunt for adrenaline-seekers. Sure, you'll find ways to relax, but if you're an adventurous duo who wants to start your married life with a bang, consider bungee-jumping, glacier hiking and snowboarding through thick forests on the other side of the world.
4. Telluride, CO
OK, we're done with skiing. You may think of Aspen and Vail when considering Colorado, but if you opt for the southwest corner of the state instead, you'll get all the picturesque mountains with a more cozy itinerary. Spend your days sipping hot cocoa after returning from a snowmobile run or unwind in nearby hot springs between bottles of red wine.
5. Iceland
Iceland was huge a few years back (before budget airline WOW Air shuttered, RIP), but it's fizzled in the past few years, likely due to its reputation as a pricey getaway. But this is your honeymoon, after all, and the Northern Lights are at their brightest in the winter. Spring for the trip and explore your Aurora Borealis-viewing options like cozy underground igloos, ice hotels and classic cabins at the edge of the Arctic Circle.
6. Portland, ME
For something more low-key, stay stateside and visit one of the most popular destinations in New England. Portland is fantastic in the summer, but guess what: You can enjoy great seafood any time of year. Plus, it's too hot to really dig into a bowl of chowder in August. Portland's dining scene is pretty unmatched beyond clams and lobster, though, so if you're a foodie couple looking to eat your way through your honeymoon, park it in the center of town and mosey your way through top-rated restaurants like Duckfat, Central Provisions, Eventide Oyster Co. and more. And don't forget the breweries!
7. Alaska
Give our 49th state her due! Alaska is far enough away that it feels like a different world (definitely far enough from those pesky wedding guests), and you'll get so much out of it: grizzly bear sighting tours, glacier hikes, dog-sledding trips and, if you're lucky, a view of those Northern Lights. A mix of adventure and leisure, all enjoyed alongside your fellow Americans.
