1. Dollar Store Wallpaper
Don’t knock it ‘till you try it. The Dollar Store is not exactly where the mind first goes when it comes to home renovation and updating our bedrooms, but they actually have a variety of cheap, removable wallpaper for the thrifty renter or the budget queen/king. If the Dollar Store is not your tempo, try checking out Amazon for some nifty deals.
2. Paint an Arch
Skip repainting your entire room and opt for this trendy new bedroom look. Painting an arch behind your bed, besides looking like a cool, matte portal, can add some depth to the space. It also doesn't hurt that it looks like an expensive feature when in reality, it was as cheap as can be.
3. Rearrange Your Space
4. Upcycle Goodwill Furniture
Much cheaper than buying new furniture, hit up Facebook Marketplace or your local Goodwill to transform an old piece of furniture into a feature piece in your room. With just a little paint or wood stain, you can work wonders with making your room look expensive. But when in doubt, you can always hit up IKEA for some reasonable deals.
5. Hang Some Plants
For those with a green thumb, hang some plants in your room or gather succulents to line your window sill. Adding just a little green will make your space livelier and may even provide some hidden health benefits for you.
6. Create and Display Some Artwork
No, you don’t have to be the next Picasso to create some work that is aesthetically pleasing and up-leveling to your space. Try a textured art piece DIY like this one from TikTok, or search for your own. The point is, there are endless, inexpensive and manageable projects to turn your room into a mini-gallery, even for the least artistic home renovator.
7. Make a DIY Headboard
Pool noodles take on a new meaning with this gorgeous, textured headboard. One trip to Leslie’s and a quick stop at Joann’s is all you need to transform your room into something that would be featured in "Architectural Digest," seriously. Not your vibe? No problem. There is a myriad of other cheap headboard DIYs to be found on Youtube.
8. Style Your Nightstand
Bring out your prettiest books for this feature. In this instance, judging the book by its cover is OK. Whatever personal photos, jewelry dishes or accent pieces you have on hand will go swimmingly in curating this little corner. It will bring a pop of color or personality to your room.
9. Center Your Mirror(s)
Even the smallest space can be elevated with proper mirror placement. If you have an extra mirror, place it above your bed for added room depth. Or, just make it central to whatever wall it hangs on — you’ll add the illusion of more space to your room.
10. Raise Your Curtains
Stop putting the curtain rod right above the top of the window sill and start moving the rod all the way up to the top of the ceiling. Adding these few inches to your curtains will prevent them from dragging on the floor and make your windows appear taller. It also doesn’t hurt that it'll open up your room that much more.
