The French woman (or man) walks with perfectly tousled hair, wearing dark navy culottes and a red lip that can be spotted a mile away. The Scandinavian individual wears all neutral colors in tan, beige and off-white shades. They are wrapped in a wool, a knee-length trench coat and sport tailored dress pants. The French unapologetic boldness intermingled with the Scandinavian coolness gives us all our newest style obsession: Frandinavian.
The well-known magazine ParisianVibe is a leading voice and trendsetter regarding this revolutionary style. They first dropped this short video in March, and since then the trend has been picking up a lot of traction amongst fashion connoisseurs and influencers alike.
Though a bit elusive in guidelines and hard to follow, the combination can be perfected with the right formulas and tools. Think of it this way, if you are wearing a pair of tailored dress pants, wear a loose-fitting linen button-down on top and heels. It’s about taking the best elements of each style and putting them together like a mosaic.
In the Scandinavian wheelhouse, clothing consists of layered coats, trench coats, form-fitting jeans, loose dress pants and understated boots or loafers. French style includes culottes, button-downs, wrap dresses, kitten heels and sweaters. If you take one piece from one, alternate to the other for the next piece in forming your outfits.
On the top is an example of the Scandinavian style for reference, and below is a French outfit:
The fusion of both can be found in purchasing traditionally French pieces in neutrals or mixing and matching pieces from both, as previously mentioned. The beauty in this new mixed trend is that you probably already own most of the pieces and/or outfits that emulate Scandinavian and French looks. Because the two styles have some overlap, to begin with, it won't be hard to converge the two. But if you're still stuck, here is a little Instagram lookbook to get your inspo.
Even more, the Instagram account @fillipahagdotcom is filled with ideas to achieve this aesthetic, and what’s more, their entire website is dedicated to the Frandinavian style. So we say Skål to that!
